You can work directly within the Microsoft Teams app with Files, or you can use SharePoint. That’s up to you, you’re in charge! So, to recap: Teams is:

So, to bring it full circle, Teams is the hub for teamwork, where the work gets done, SharePoint comes into the mix with its content storage and file sharing capabilities, and Groups brings it all together, uniting the two on the backend by managing how users can use these apps.

Why can’t i start up Teams?

1. Check If Microsoft Teams Is Down – Microsoft Teams may fail to load on your computer if there is an issue on the server side. Hence, it’s a good idea to check Microsoft Teams’ service status before troubleshooting the Teams app. Head to the and check if Teams’ servers are operational.

After completing the above steps, try to open Microsoft Teams again. Microsoft Teams, like any other app, collects cache data on your computer to improve its performance. However, it’s not uncommon for this data to become corrupted over time. When this happens, Microsoft Teams might fail to launch on your computer.

Press Win + R to open the Run dialog. Copy and paste the following path in the text box and click OK : %appdata%\Microsoft\teams Press Ctrl + A to select all the files and folders inside the Teams folder. Click the trash icon at the top to delete them. Close File Explorer and, After that, try to open the Teams app again.

Windows Store Apps troubleshooter is a built-in utility that can help you fix common issues with UWP (Universal Windows Platform) apps such as Microsoft Teams. You can try running this troubleshooter and see if that gets the Teams app back up and running on Windows. To run the Windows Store Apps troubleshooter:

Right-click the Start icon and select Settings from the list. Navigate to System > Troubleshoot, Select Other troubleshooters, Click the Run button next to Windows Store Apps,

Follow the on-screen prompts to run the troubleshooter and then check if you can open the Teams app on Windows. If the troubleshooter fails to identify any issues, you can use Windows’ built-in repair tool to repair the Microsoft Teams app. Here are the steps for the same.

Open the Start menu and click the gear icon to launch the Settings app. Switch to the Apps tab using the left pane. Select Installed apps, Scroll through the list or use the search tool to locate Microsoft Teams app on the list. Then, click the three-dot menu icon next to it and select Advanced options, Scroll down to the Reset section and click the Repair button.

Windows will start repairing the app and display a checkmark after completing the process. If the problem persists, you can consider resetting the Teams app on your computer. Note that this process will delete all the app data, so you’ll have to log in to your account again. To reset the Teams app on Windows:

Click the search icon on the taskbar or press Win + S to access the search menu. Type Microsoft Teams in the search box and select App settings from the right pane. Scroll down to the Reset section and click the Reset button. Click Reset again to confirm the action.

After Windows resets the Teams app, you should be able to access it as before. Using an outdated version of the Teams app can also cause it to malfunction on Windows. A quick reinstall can help you update the Teams app and fix problems caused due to app file corruption. To reinstall Microsoft Teams on your Windows computer:

Open the search menu and type Microsoft Teams in the box. Select Uninstall from the right pane. Hit Uninstall to confirm. Once removed, head over to Microsoft Teams download page to again.

Another reason why Teams may fail to launch on Windows is if some of your computer’s system files are corrupted or missing. SFC (or System File Checker) is a built-in tool to help you find and, Here’s how to run it.

Right-click the Start icon to open the Power User menu. Select Terminal (Admin) from the list. Select Yes when the User Account Control (UAC) prompt appears. Input the following command in the console and press Enter to run the SFC scan: sfc /scannow

Wait for the scan to complete and restart your computer. Then, try to relaunch the Teams app. If your computer is infected with malware, it could prevent apps from launching on Windows. So, if none of the above solutions work, you should use the Windows Security app to scan your system for malware.

Open the Windows Security app using the search bar. Navigate to the Virus and Threat Protection tab. Click Scan options, Select Full scan and hit the Scan now button.

Allow the app to perform an in-depth scan of your computer’s files. If any threats are discovered, take the necessary steps to remove them from your computer. Furthermore, you will face lesser limitations when you directly create a new team instead of sticking to a new channel. Here are specific reasons why it’s better to create a team instead:

• Designated area for discussions and file storage-specific for that team only
• Content and resources shared with other members unrelated to other teams
• Potential divisions or separations of threads, conversations, etc. for that team

On the other hand, there may be instances when creating a team is overkill for the reason or task at hand. Here are some cases where creating a channel will suffice:

• Designated area for discussions related to the existing team (and this is all you need)
• Chat with current members of the team

So, a Microsoft Teams team or a channel? – There’s no universal answer to the question of whether you need to create a team or a channel. There are several points you should consider before deciding what’s going to work best for you. How many people need to be involved in the collaboration process? Would you like all of them to have the same level of access to the same data? Do the same people already form a part of another team? If they do and their collaboration topic is connected to this team, then a channel could be a better solution.

And if you don’t wish other teammates to have access to their discussions, you can make this channel private. At the same time, it’s important to consider collaboration intensity. If you and your team go back to the subject over and over again and a lot of work revolves around it, then it deserves a separate workspace where you could have focused discussions, store and share all your data, and keep track of the progress without distractions on any other topics.

One of my least favourite features of Microsoft Teams is the tenant switching. If a customer has added me to a Team in their tenant, I have to switch to theirs and log in whenever I want to access or share something with them. If I am on a Teams call in my company’s Teams tenant, I have to end the call to access something from another tenant. Shared Channels is a feature being released by Microsoft this year (2022) that will help solve that issue. More info here. But for now, I like to run multiple instances of Teams to access another tenant while logged into my own. What I mean by multiple instances is the ability to have more than one Teams window open at one time on my computer. To do this, open up any browser and log in to Teams online with the exact login details I use for the desktop app. Then click on the three dots and choose more tools > create a shortcut, A box will appear asking to create a shortcut. Name the window whatever you want, and make sure you select open as a window, Once I do that, it will open a Teams windows so now I have 2 on my desktop: I love having 2 instances of Teams, even if I don’t need to login to another tenant, I can use one for viewing a specific channel, the other for chat or calendar.
