Why can’t I rename my AirPods on Android?

Troubleshooting Common Issues When Renaming AirPods on Android – Have you recently purchased a pair of AirPods and are having trouble renaming them on your Android device? Don’t worry, you’re not alone. Renaming AirPods can be tricky especially if it’s your first time trying to do so.

  • And let’s face it, the default name “AirPods” isn’t exactly unique or personalized.
  • The most common issue people face when trying to rename their AirPods on Android is that they can’t seem to find the option in their Bluetooth settings.
  • This issue arises because unlike iPhones, Android devices don’t have an easy-to-access menu for managing paired Bluetooth devices.

To fix this problem, open your phone’s settings app and navigate to “Connected devices” then select “Bluetooth.” From there, locate your AirPods and click on the gear icon next to them. You should now see an option where you can rename them. Another issue some people encounter is that after successfully renaming their Airpods on Android, the new name doesn’t stick and reverts back to its original name – usually after disconnecting from their phone or restarting it.

  • This issue occurs because some versions of Android prioritize the firmware setting over manual changes made by users – meaning if your firmware is outdated or incompatible with certain features such as naming customization, it will override any attempts at changing the name manually.
  • Related: Unarchive Text Messages on Android If all else fails and you still can’t rename your Airpods despite following all troubleshooting steps online – then try resetting both earbuds by holding down the button located at its base for about 15 seconds until a flashing amber light shows up indicating successful reset has occurred.

Afterward try reconnecting again via Bluetooth but hold off from customizing any names till successful pairing/connection happens first- sometimes a little bit of patience goes a long way.
