How old is Obi-Wan Kenobi in each episode?
How Old Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Throughout The Star Wars Prequels – Obi-Wan was born in 57 BBY – 57 years before the Battle of Yavin. As such, Obi-Wan Kenobi was 25 years old in The Phantom Menace, Attack of the Clones picks up the story 10 years after the events of The Phantom Menace, meaning that Obi-Wan Kenobi was 35 years old in Episode III,
- The Clone Wars were fought for three years, with Obi-Wan being 38 by the time the conflict was ending.
- In other words, Obi-Wan was 38 years old during Revenge of the Sith,
- As a comparison, Ewan McGregor was 28 and 34 during Revenge of the Sith,
- Perhaps the biggest source of confusion between how Obi-Wan looks in A New Hope and the prequels comes from the fact that the original Star Wars movie suggests that the high of the Jedi Knights happened several decades ago.
However, when crafting the Star Wars prequels, George Lucas set The Phantom Menace relatively close to the original trilogy – only 32 years separate Episodes I and IV, The ten-year time jump between The Phantom Menace and Attack of the Clones also didn’t help, as Obi-Wan was supposed to have aged ten years when only three years had passed in the real world. Obi-Wan Kenobi is set 10 years after, Therefore, Obi-Wan is 48 years old in his solo show. As a comparison, Ewan McGregor was 50 years old when filming for the Obi-Wan Kenobi series began. A New Hope, the movie used as a reference for the Star Wars timeline, takes place in 0 BBY.
- Therefore, Obi-Wan is 57 years old in A New Hope,
- Sir Alec Guinness, who played Obi-Wan Kenobi in the original Star Wars trilogy, was 62 years old when filming A New Hope,
- Guinness would then reprise his role as Obi-Wan in two more films.
- Although Alec Guinness’ Obi-Wan Kenobi returned in The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi as a Force ghost, the character officially died at 57.
Curiously, considering that Alec Guinness was five years older than and that Ewan McGregor was always younger than Obi-Wan during the prequels, the closest that an Obi-Wan actor came to having the same age as the character was in Ewan McGregor in the Obi-Wan Kenobi series.
Why is Obi-Wan so old in Episode 1?
Many entries into the Star Wars franchise have made Obi-Wan Kenobi’s original appearance as an old man confusing, but there might now be an answer. Warning: Contains spoilers for Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3. Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 might have finally explained why Obi-Wan Kenobi looks so old in Star Wars: A New Hope, Many entries into the Star Wars franchise from the prequel trilogy and beyond have created numerous inconsistencies and borderline plot holes with Obi-Wan’s character, with his physical age being a notable one.
- Fortunately, Obi-Wan Kenobi might have finally provided an answer for why he ends up looking the way he does.
- While Sir Alec Guinness portrayed Obi-Wan Kenobi as a wise old man, according to official sources released in the years following the original trilogy, he was only fifty-seven years old in A New Hope, which makes it confusing that he looks so much older.
The confusion resurfaced when Bo-Katan Kryze appeared in The Mandalorian – because in-universe, it had been about thirty years since she first appeared in Star Wars: The Clone Wars, yet she hadn’t appeared to have aged a day, so it didn’t make sense that Obi-Wan had aged so much.
One popular theory has been that Tatooine’s twin suns were bad for his health, but with Ewan McGregor looking largely the same in Obi-Wan Kenobi as he did in Revenge of the Sith – despite ten years having gone by in-universe – it’s hard to believe that they’ll suddenly be so bad that he’ll start looking like an old man within the next nine years.
Fortunately, Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3 might have finally explained why Obi-Wan looks so old in Star Wars: A New Hope, In Obi-Wan Kenobi episode 3, Obi-Wan has a brief fight with Darth Vader, during which Vader uses the Force on him and drags his body through a burning field. The idea of the Dark Side of the Force causing Obi-Wan to age rapidly has its roots in Revenge of the Sith, There, Emperor Palpatine gained a much older and more grotesque appearance when Jedi Master Mace Windu reflected his Force lightning back into his face, so a Sith Lord like Vader using the Force on Obi-Wan could have a similar effect – albeit at a slower rate than what Palpatine faced.
The burns can also work as a solution because they could easily cause permanent damage that would make him progressively weaker over time, with the physical effects of this making him look old in A New Hope, Not only that, but that being the explanation could create a great parallel between Obi-Wan and Vader, as that would make them both powerful Force wielders unable to fight to their fullest extent due to fire-related injuries received from their battles.
The inconsistencies surrounding Obi-Wan’s physical age are another side effect of the Star Wars prequel trilogy, but Obi-Wan Kenobi might have finally offered a solution. Thanks to Obi-Wan’s fight with Vader, it’s possible that his old appearance in Star Wars: A New Hope is from the Dark Side of the Force, his burns causing his health to deteriorate, or some combination of the two.

Obi-wan was about 15–16 years older than Anakin, meaning he died at about the age of fifty seven.
Why is Obi-Wan Kenobi so old in Episode 4?
Why does Obi-Wan Kenobi age like that? – Because he’s not real, and is a fictional character played by different people. Image: 20th Century Fox Image: Lucasfilm/Disney You see, Obi-Wan Kenobi is played by Alec Guinness in the original trilogy. Guinness was 62 when he filmed A New Hope, and he died in 2000. In the prequel trilogy and the Obi-Wan Kenobi series, the character is played by Ewan McGregor, who was 26 when filming The Phantom Menace and is currently 51. Those are two different people! Incredible!
How old is Obi-Wan in 9 years?
‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ Age Plot Hole Conveniently Fixed By Fan Theory It’s been a question on the lips of many fans for years. Just how on earth did Ewan McGregor’s Obi-Wan Kenobi age into Sir Alec Guiness’s between Star Wars: Revenge Of The Sith and A New Hope ? TV shows like Star Wars: The Clone Wars have helped fill the gap just a wee bit, but there’s still very little accounting for the jedi’s aging.
Of course we now have the Obi-Wan Kenobi series where McGregor is reprising his role, but there’s still no getting around the fact that the two do still look different. Helped in no small part by the fact that McGregor really has aged very well, the lucky blighter. Check out the trailer for Obi-Wan Kenobi to get an idea of what we’re talking about.
Okay, so let’s get down to brass tacks and figure this one out, shall we? According to, Obi-Wan is a spritely 38 years old at the end of Revenge Of The Sith, and 57 During A New Hope, The Obi-Wan Kenobi series is set nine years before A New Hope, so this puts the man himself at a mere 48 years young.
McGregor is 51 right now, and Guinness was 62 at the time of filming A New Hope, So far, so good. But a new fan theory has proposed an interesting solution for the difference in appearance of the two actors and, within the limits of the Star Wars universe, it actually kinda makes sense. Twitter user @TomStheVoice reckons that Obi-Wan could have been zapped by some debilitating force power, and with the return of Hayden Christensen as Darth Vader confirmed, and a whole bunch of Inquisitors running around, it wouldn’t be too much of a stretch.
The Obi-Wan series takes place just NINE years before A New Hope, but he is much too young to “age” into Alec Guiness in that time. My theory: Obi-Wan is going to get affected by some life-draining Force power. If by his own hands, for a selfless act. Maybe to protect Luke.
— Tom Schalk (@TomStheVoice) I mean, just look at what happened to Sheev Palpatine when Mace Windu gave him a taste of his own force lightning during their battle. The guy melted like a candle and the attempt on his life left him scarred and deformed, by his own admission. Of course, this is merely a theory and in no way confirmation of it happening.
With a full nine years left of timeline to fill in Kenobi’s life, it’s quite possible that we’re going to get multiple series’ between now and then if it’s a hit with fans. And of course if McGregor doesn’t end up being an exact replica of Guinness at the same age, Disney might just do a little bit of digital jiggery pokery to morph the faces of the two actors as they’ve done several times before in the galaxy far, far away.
Was Obi-Wan a Padawan at 25?
Prequel trilogy (1999–2005) – In Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, set 32 years before A New Hope, a 25-year-old Obi-Wan Kenobi ( Ewan McGregor ) appears as the Padawan apprentice of Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn ( Liam Neeson ). He accompanies his master in negotiations with the corrupt Trade Federation, which is blockading the planet Naboo with a fleet of spaceships.
They fight a swarm of battle droids and stow away on a landing craft en route to Naboo. Once on Naboo, Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon rescue Naboo’s 14-year-old Queen Padmé Amidala ( Natalie Portman ), with help from native Gungan Jar Jar Binks ( Ahmed Best ), and escape in a spaceship toward the Republic capital of Coruscant,
Their ship is damaged in the escape, causing the hyperdrive generator to malfunction, and they land on Tatooine for repairs, where they discover the nine-year-old slave Anakin Skywalker ( Jake Lloyd ). Qui-Gon believes the boy is the ” Chosen One ” prophesied to bring balance to the Force.
Anakin joins the group as they travel to Coruscant. While leaving Tatooine, they are attacked by Darth Maul (portrayed by Ray Park, voiced by Peter Serafinowicz ), a member of the Sith, a cult of the dark side long thought to be extinct. When Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan return to Naboo to defeat the Trade Federation, they are met again by Maul, who engages them both in lightsaber combat.
When Maul mortally wounds Qui-Gon, Obi-Wan storms in to duel the Sith lord, who nearly kills him. However, Obi-Wan manages to turn the tables and defeat Maul, cutting him in half. He promises to fulfill Qui-Gon’s dying wish to train Anakin as a Jedi, with or without the council’s blessing. Ewan McGregor as Kenobi in Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones In Attack of the Clones, set 10 years later, Obi-Wan is now a respected Jedi Knight and the master of Anakin Skywalker ( Hayden Christensen ). Over the years, Anakin has grown powerful but arrogant, and believes that Obi-Wan is “holding him back”.
After they save Padmé, now a senator, from an assassination attempt, Obi-Wan goes on a solo mission to trace the would-be assassins involved to the planet Kamino, He learns of a massive clone army that the planet’s inhabitants are building for the Republic. The clones’ template is bounty hunter Jango Fett ( Temuera Morrison ), and he and Obi-Wan battle once the latter deduces Fett must be behind the attempted assassination.
Fett escapes to the planet Geonosis with his clone son Boba ( Daniel Logan ), unaware that Obi-Wan has pursued them. On Geonosis, Obi-Wan discovers that a conspiracy of star systems bent on revolution from the Republic is led by Jedi-turned-Sith Lord Count Dooku ( Christopher Lee ), Qui-Gon’s old master.
After sending a message to Anakin, Obi-Wan is captured, interrogated, and sentenced to death by Dooku. Anakin and Padmé arrive with a cadre of Jedi and the clone army, just in time to prevent the executions. Obi-Wan and Anakin confront Dooku, but the Sith Lord overpowers them both. Yoda intervenes and saves their lives, at the cost of Dooku’s escape.
In Revenge of the Sith, set three years later, Obi-Wan is now a Jedi Master and a member of the Jedi Council, as well as a General in the Grand Army of the Republic. Anakin, by now a Jedi Knight, remains Obi-Wan’s partner, and the two have become war heroes and best friends.
- The film opens with the two on a rescue mission to save the kidnapped Supreme Chancellor Palpatine ( Ian McDiarmid ) from cyborg Separatist commander General Grievous ( Matthew Wood ) on board his cruiser.
- Dooku duels the Jedi once again, knocking Obi-Wan unconscious; while Obi-Wan is out cold, Anakin defeats Dooku and kills him in cold blood on Palpatine’s orders.
Soon after returning to Coruscant, Obi-Wan travels to planet Utapau to track down Grievous. After finding the Separatist encampment, Obi-Wan fights Grievous and kills him with Grievous’ own blaster. When the Sith Lord Darth Sidious, who is revealed to be Supreme Chancellor Palpatine and the mastermind of the war—issues Order 66 to have the clone troopers turn on the Jedi, Obi-Wan survives the attempt on his life and escapes, rendezvousing with Yoda and Senator Bail Organa ( Jimmy Smits ) of Alderaan aboard Organa’s ship, Tantive III,
Returning to Coruscant, he and Yoda discover that every Jedi in the Jedi Temple has been murdered. After sending a beacon to all surviving Jedi to scatter across the galaxy and remain in hiding, a heartbroken Obi-Wan watches security footage revealing that it was Anakin—who is now Darth Sidious’ Sith apprentice, Darth Vader—who led the chaos.
Yoda says that he will confront Sidious, and he charges Obi-Wan with battling Vader. Obi-Wan is loath to fight his best friend, but reluctantly accepts when Yoda says that Anakin Skywalker no longer exists, having been “consumed” by Vader. Obi-Wan visits Padmé to question of Anakin’s whereabouts, and realizes that Anakin is her husband and the father of her unborn child.
When Padmé sets out to the volcanic planet Mustafar to confront her husband herself, Obi-Wan secretly stows away aboard her ship. After they arrive on Mustafar, Obi-Wan reveals himself and confronts Anakin, who accuses Padmé and Obi-Wan of conspiring against him and uses the dark side to choke Padmé into unconsciousness.
A long and ferocious lightsaber duel occurs between Obi-Wan and Anakin, ending with Obi-Wan severing Anakin’s legs and left arm. Obi-Wan watches in horror as Anakin slides too close to a lava flow and catches fire; he then takes his former friend’s lightsaber and leaves him to die.
Unbeknownst to Obi-Wan, Vader is rescued by Sidious moments later and reconstructed into the cyborg as first seen in the original trilogy. Obi-Wan takes Padmé to the asteroid Polis Massa, where she dies after giving birth to twins Luke and Leia. Afterwards, Obi-Wan assists in hiding Luke and Leia from the Empire.
While Leia is adopted by Bail Organa and his wife, Yoda instructs Obi-Wan to deliver Luke to Anakin’s stepbrother Owen Lars ( Joel Edgerton ) and his wife Beru ( Bonnie Piesse ) on Tatooine. Yoda then reveals that Qui-Gon’s spirit will teach them both to become one with the Force after death.

Why doesn t Leia remember Obi-Wan?
Theory 1: Leia Doesn’t Remember Ben Is Obi-Wan – Throughout her encounters with Kenobi in the series, he refers to himself as Ben. The most straightforward explanation would be that Leia knows the person who rescued her is Ben, and never connected the dots that Ben is actually Obi-Wan.
Surely complicating matters is that various characters have referred to him as Obi-Wan in her presence. However, it’s worth remembering that Leia, regardless of her maturity, is still only 10 years old. It’s not a difficult deduction to assume she’s not making the connection between adult strangers calling the person who refers to himself as Ben as actually being someone else named Obi-Wan,
With the events of the series unfolding only over a few days to this point, there’s also an argument to be made that the experience could be so traumatic that Leia blocked out the details of it. Or, conversely, with how little we know about the next eight years of her life, Leia could have experienced a number of other even more traumatic experiences during her time in conjunction with the Rebel Alliance and that she’s undergone even more harrowing encounters than her time with Ben, making her memories of him somewhat insignificant.
Who is the strongest Jedi?
1 Yoda – Lucasfilm While little is known about Yoda’s species, we do know, however, that their entire race is incredibly gifted in the force. Both Jedi Master Yaddle, and now Grogu hold great force powers, but no Jedi Master has ever held greater power than Jedi Master Yoda.
Throughout Star Wars canon, Yoda has shown off some incredibly impressive abilities. He learned how to project himself as a force ghost, as well as reflect force lightning with his hands. Yoda has taught some of the best Jedi in the galaxy, from Luke Skywalker to Count Dooku. Most notably, however; Yoda’s skills with a blade are unlike anything we have ever seen.
Yoda flips and whips around the battlefield and in a duel, getting the edge on his enemies.
Who is Obi-Wan’s brother?
Does Obi-Wan Kenobi Have a Brother? – You’ll be surprised to hear that in the original screenplay for “Star Wars: Episode VI – Return of the Jedi,” Obi-Wan does have a brother, and it’s none other than ‘s uncle, Owen Lars. This detail never made it to the film’s final cut, but it was still included in the movie’s novelization.

How old is Obi when he dies?
Why Star Wars’ Obi-Wan Kenobi Age Plot Hole Isn’t A Problem – IMDb The Obi-Wan Kenobi Disney+ series allowed audiences to see what the Jedi Master was up to in the years between Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith and, but for many, it created a disconnect between the and Sir versions of the character.
- Many are often shocked to find that Obi-Wan was only 57 years old when he died fighting in,
- For many, the issue of Obi-Wan’s age is a plot hole, as he was initially seen as this old solitary man, but made him younger than he looked in the original trilogy.
- Because of Obi-Wan’s wise persona in the original trilogy, it was assumed that he was old, but once the prequels came out and solidified his age, it made audiences a little confused about how in twenty years Obi-Wan could go from.

Is Darth Maul older than Obi-Wan?
Darth Maul has appeared in various movies and TV shows throughout the prequel era, and here’s how old he was in both Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels. Darth Maul was in his 50s when he died in Star Wars Rebels, but he was in his prime during the Clone Wars and throughout most of the Empire’s reign across the galaxy. First appearing in Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace, Darth Maul unveiled the Sith to the Jedi after a thousand years in hiding.
He fought and killed Qui-Gon Jinn on Naboo, which was quite the feat for the Sith Lord, but he failed to kill Obi-Wan Kenobi as well; instead, he was apparently killed by being cut in half. Of course, that didn’t last, as Darth Maul returned to the fold in Star Wars: The Clone Wars and became yet another foe for the Jedi and the Republic.
His storyline not only delved deeper into his backstory but illuminated aspects of the Sith – and Palpatine, for that matter – that were left ambiguous by the prequel trilogy, including how much of his plan was known ahead of time. Darth Maul ultimately escaped the clutches of the Republic during Order 66 and lived to lead Crimson Dawn in the time period between the prequel and original trilogies.
- Since much of Maul’s backstory has been told outside of canon material, his exact age is questionable.
- According to the now-Legends book Jedi vs.
- Sith: The Essential Guide to the Force, Maul was born in 54 BBY.
- Going based on that date, Maul would’ve been 22 years old when he fought Obi-Wan on Naboo and 34 years old when he first appeared in Clone Wars.
When Order 66 happens during events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith and Maul disappears, he’s 35 years old. Teased in Clone Wars season 7 as well as Solo: A Star Wars Story, Maul ultimately became the leader of the syndicate Crimson Dawn during the Age of the Empire, and his journey ultimately brought him to the planet Malachor, where he met Ezra Bridger for the first time.
- That was in 3 BBY, thus meaning Maul was 51 years old when he first appeared in Star Wars Rebels season 2.
- His time on the show didn’t last long, seeing as he was killed off – for the final time – in a duel with Obi-Wan on Tatooine in Star Wars Rebels season 3.
- He was 52 years old when he died in 2 BBY.
Maul was three years younger than his rival Obi-Wan, who was 55 years old when he killed the former Sith Lord at the tail-end of the Empire’s rule. Comparatively, Ray Park, who’s played Maul in live-action and performing motion capture for animation over the years, is 45 years old.
How old was Obi-Wan when Padmé died?
The Canon’s Timeline – Events in the Star Wars universe are classified as either BBY, “Before the Battle of Yavin”, or ABY, “After the Battle of Yavin”—making the watershed moment of the history of the galaxy, the battle that resulted in the first big victory of the Rebel Alliance against the Galactic Empire (with the destruction of the first Death Star).
- So, let’s calculate Obi-Wan’s age according to these dates.
- Wookieepedia says that Obi-Wan was born in 57 BBY and died, obviously, in 0 BBY — since his duel with Darth Vader takes place just a few weeks before the Battle of Yavin itself.
- So, he was fifty-seven years old when he died, which means that Sir Alec Guinness was almost a decade too old to be playing him and his age is actually much closer to Ewan McGregor’s current age—since the actor is in his fifties.
And since he passed from a Padawan to a full Jedi Knight in 37 BBY, after he defeated Darth Maul in a duel, that means that he was twenty when he and Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn arrived on Tatooine and met a little boy who was going to absolutely wreck the entire galaxy, bringing the Jedi Order down with him.
Order 66 was executed in 32 BBY, so Obi-Wan was twenty-five when he dueled his former pupil on Mustafar, saw Padmé die of hEaRtBrEaK —I’m sorry, but that motivation still enrages me after all these years—and made sure that Luke was delivered safely into the arms of his Skywalker uncle and aunt on Tatooine.
So, funnily enough, Ewan McGregor was also too old to be playing young Obi-Wan Kenobi in the prequel trilogy, just like Sir Alec Guinness was too old to be playing him in the original one. Complicating it all is that the Obi-Wan Kenobi trailer shows Luke as a child—meaning that only a handful of years have passed (even though the last movie was in 2005) and so, obviously, the actor has aged while Obi-Wan himself should be around thirty years old, rather than the nearly sixty-year-old man he will be by the time Luke is spurred into action by Leia’s message recorded on R2-D2’s memory.
Did Obi-Wan and Leia ever meet?
“Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope” – Leia is saved by Ben using the Force in Episode 2 of Obi-Wan Kenobi. Lucasfilm In A New Hope, Leia famously sends a holographic message to Ben on Tatooine and says, “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi. You’re my only hope.” But she also says “years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars.” Before now, this was all we knew of Leia and Ben’s connection: That Leia was aware of Obi-Wan Kenobi hiding away on Tatooine.
But now, we’ve learned that Leia knew Ben fairly well. Like, really well. This makes so much more sense! In A New Hope, Leia’s utter faith in Obi-Wan Kenobi comes circuitously from her father, who, in that film, is never glimpsed. However, when Luke breaks Leia out of her cell and says, “I’m here with Ben Kenobi,” and Leia doesn’t miss a beat.
She knows that’s his other name. It now seems like her sending the hologram saying “years ago you served my father.” was her way of covering up their personal connection. Leia is too smart to say “years ago, you rescued me from bounty hunters when I was a little kid.” Even after the fact, keeping Obi-Wan’s activities relatively secret, is still important.
- Leia comforts Luke about the loss of Obi-Wan.
- But it’s possible that she knew Old Ben much better.
- Lucasfilm The Inverse analysis — The new revelation that Leia was buddies with Obi-Wan when she was a kid isn’t just some cool canon twist, it also adds a tragic layer to everything that happens in A New Hope,
Leia doesn’t get to reunite with Obi-Wan, and instead, just before escaping with Han and Luke, she sees his murder. Of course, Leia doesn’t know Darth Vader is her father yet, either in A New Hope and certainly not in Obi-Wan Kenobi, But for the most part, the narrative focus of A New Hope is on Luke.
What Obi-Wan Kenobi does is shift that narrative focus not only to Ben himself but also, to Luke’s sister. As Bail Organa tells Obi-Wan in the new show, Leia’s “just as important” as Luke. And the events of Obi-Wan Kenobi aren’t just making that true for the audience, but also true for old Ben himself.
Obi-Wan Kenobi is streaming now on Disney+ : ‘Obi-Wan Kenobi’ just fixed a 45-year-old Star Wars plot hole
How old was Yoda when he died?
When Yoda died, how old was he? Yoda has been a fan favourite Star Wars character since his first appearance in 1980. After hearing about a great Jedi master earlier in the film, audiences were surprised to learn that the small, old creature was actually the great Jedi master Obi-Wan had mentioned earlier in the film (a twist that would quickly be surpassed by an even bigger twist later in the movie).
- Yoda’s character has retained an air of mystery even as the Star Wars universe has grown over the years.
- We still don’t know what Yoda’s homeworld is called, or even what species he belongs to.
- Only a few other members of his species have appeared in all the years since, including Yaddle as well as Grogu in the recent Mandalorian TV series.
One of the few things we do know about this enigmatic species is that they appear to have extremely long life spans. When we first met Grogu in The Mandalorian (then simply The Child), we were told he was 50 years old, despite the fact that he was clearly still a very young child.
Yoda has also made several references to living for hundreds of years throughout the series. But, in Return of the Jedi, how old was Yoda when he died? Products about yoda: How old was Yoda in Episode VI? Yoda makes several references to the length of his life in the original trilogy. The first is when Luke first meets Yoda in The Empire Strikes Back.
Yoda claims to have been training Jedi for 800 years. The second time Yoda mentions his long life is in Return of the Jedi, when he tells Luke, “When you reach 900 years old, you will not look as good as you will.” If we take Yoda at his word, that means the Jedi Master died at the ripe old age of 900.
Of course, Yoda could have been rounding when he mentioned either of these two numbers. It’s worth mentioning that looking deeper into Yoda and his few references to his age reveals some interesting tidbits of information. After all, if Yoda is 900 years old by the time we see him in the original trilogy, and he’s trained Jedi for 800 years by that point, we can assume that he began training his first Jedi when he was around 100 years old.
If Grogu is in fact 50 years old, then he is already halfway to being old enough to start training Jedi himself. Of course, we don’t know how Yoda’s species ages, and we don’t have enough comparisons to know if Yoda himself is an especially gifted member of his species or not.
How old was Obi-Wan when he joined the Jedi?
Kenobi was chosen by Qui-Gon Jinn to be his Padawan. Around 44 BBY, Jedi Master Qui-Gon Jinn chose Kenobi as his Padawan learner when he was thirteen years old.
How old is Darth in Obi-Wan?
How Old Was Darth Vader on Obi-Wan Kenobi? – As Darth Vader, Anakin spent years killing rogue Jedi and massacring any Rebel cells that tried to gain the upper hand on the Empire. However, he still felt deep resentment over what Kenobi had done to him on Mustafar. On Obi-Wan Kenobi, Darth Vader had been operating for ten years, making him 32 years old when he encountered his old Master, who had been hiding since Order 66,
The pair fought twice, but it was during their second clash that Vader uttered a harsh truth. According to Darth Vader, he was the one that killed Anakin, and whatever humanity Kenobi tried to appeal to had been snuffed out by Vader. From that point on, Kenobi knew his friend had died, and the man he faced was something far more sinister and broken.
In Star Wars: Episode IV – A New Hope, Vader was 41 when he encountered Kenobi for a final duel, and in that battle, Vader was finally the victor as Kenobi became one with the Force. However, this was also the start of his mission to discover what made Luke so special.
How old is Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode 4?
Obi-Wan Kenobi looks around ~35 yrs of age in Episode III. But of course he gets to be ~80 yrs old in Episode IV when only ~20 years have actually passed during that time. Many have come up with theories, such as: because of how stressed he was on Tatooine taking care of Luke, he aged very quickly.

Obi-Wan Kenobi is an American television miniseries created for the streaming service Disney+, It is part of the Star Wars franchise and stars Ewan McGregor as the title character, reprising his role from the Star Wars prequel trilogy, Set ten years after the events of Star Wars: Episode III – Revenge of the Sith (2005), the series follows Kenobi as he sets out to rescue the kidnapped Princess Leia ( Vivien Lyra Blair ) from the Galactic Empire, leading to a confrontation with his former apprentice, Darth Vader ( Hayden Christensen ).
- The project originated as a spin-off film written by Hossein Amini and directed by Stephen Daldry, but it was reworked as a limited series following the commercial failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story (2018).
- McGregor was confirmed to be starring in August 2019, and Deborah Chow was hired to direct a month later.
Production was scheduled to begin in July 2020, but the series was put on hold in January 2020 because Lucasfilm was unsatisfied with the scripts. Joby Harold was hired to rewrite the series and serve as showrunner in April 2020, executive producing with Chow, McGregor, Kathleen Kennedy, and Michelle Rejwan,
- Additional casting took place in March 2021, with co-stars such as Joel Edgerton, Bonnie Piesse, Jimmy Smits, James Earl Jones, and Christensen reprising their prequel trilogy roles.
- Filming began by May 2021 in Los Angeles, using StageCraft video wall technology, and wrapped by September.
- Natalie Holt composed the score, while Star Wars film composer John Williams wrote the “Obi-Wan Theme”, which was adapted by William Ross,
The first two episodes of Obi-Wan Kenobi premiered on May 27, 2022. The subsequent four episodes were released weekly until June 22. The series received generally positive reviews, with critics praising McGregor’s performance, the action sequences, the music by John Williams, the character-driven narrative, and the emotional weight, although the writing received some criticism.
How many years before episode 4 is Obi-Wan?
Obi-Wan Kenobi timeline: what does that mean for the show? – (Image credit: Disney/Lucasfilm) Obi-Wan Kenobi takes place 10 years after the events of Revenge of the Sith, and nine years before A New Hope. That means we pick up with the titular Jedi Master in exile on Tatooine, watching over a young Luke Skywalker (he and his twin sister Leia Organa are both 10 years old).
Meanwhile, Darth Vader is still out there following his clash with Obi-Wan on Mustafar a decade previously, and the Sith Lord’s Inquisitors are on the hunt for any Jedi who survived the deadly Order 66. So far, the show has featured a quick cameo from young Luke, but it’s Leia who stole the show with her heart-warming team-up with Obi-Wan,
Her adoptive parents Bail and Breha Organa have also appeared, and there was even a cameo from a former clone trooper in episode 2, As for who else might be showing up in the show, there’s a few characters around at this time. Ahsoka Tano is out there, as is Yoda, Bo-Katan Kryze, Han Solo, and even the Force ghost of Qui-Gon Jinn,
- Rebels characters could make an appearance, especially considering the Grand Inquisitor debuted in that show, and so could rebellion figures like Mon Mothma, or more clones like Cody or Rex.
- Plus, characters from the other Star Wars TV shows like Din Djarin, Boba Fett, and even Grogu are alive in this time period.
In short, there’s tons of characters that could potentially be crossing over, though whether they actually will remains to be seen – some are far more likely than others Obi-Wan Kenobi’s place between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope means that we know certain things are bound to happen in the future, too.
Nine years on from the show, Obi-Wan will be the wise grandfatherly figure we know and love from A New Hope, and he’s set to duel Vader one final time aboard the first Death Star. But, there’s still a lot of room to play with, considering Vader and Obi-Wan only exchange a few words when they meet for the final time, so their “rematch of the century” isn’t all that hemmed in.
Obi-Wan also isn’t particularly forthcoming in the original trilogy about what he’s been up to on Tatooine for all those years, so the way is clear for his new adventures in the Disney Plus show.
