You can buy AppleCare+ at any point during the first 60 days of owning a new iPhone. The basic plan, which covers you for two years from the date of purchase, covers up to two incidents of accidental damage in each 12-month period. It also includes battery service or a replacement battery if your phone retains less than 80 percent of its original capacity.
For an additional $70, you’re also covered for up to two incidents of theft or loss in each 12-month period. If you have more than two incidents of breakage, loss, or theft every 12 months, you’re back to paying the full cost of repair or replacement. How do I activate AppleCare?
When I purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan, do I need to register it? – In most cases, if you purchase the AppleCare Protection Plan at the same time as your Apple hardware from selected Apple resellers, you will not need to register it as your AppleCare agreement will be automatically registered.

Apple today indicated that “back-glass only” damage on iPhone 12 and iPhone 13 models is now eligible for repair under AppleCare+ for a reduced fee of $29 in the United States, $39 in Canada, £25 in the UK, or the equivalent in other countries. Prior to this change, cracked or damaged back glass on an iPhone 12 cost $99 to be repaired if the device was covered by an AppleCare+ plan. In order to qualify for the $29 repair, the iPhone must be covered by AppleCare+ and have no additional damage beyond the damaged back glass that would prevent Apple from replacing the back glass, such as a bent or dented enclosure.
